What to wear to the office party
Trying to put together an outfit to wear to a staff party with the hubby. Thinking a nice long skirt with a nice top and some boots. Or maybe not a long skirt. Maybe a knee-length or just below the knee with some opaque stockings and tall boots. The party is a couple of Sunday’s from now. Hopefully I can drop 5 pounds by then, but even if I don’t it’s about selecting an outfit that flatters the body you have.
I’m liking this Lauren Ralph Lauren Silk Taffeta Skirtbut being a bit ample in the buttocks I’m not sure a flared skirt would flatter my rear end. I guess it would depend on the top it’s paired with but I find flaring skirts on people with ample posteriors very unflattering.
The length is good, although I would still prefer a few more inches below the knees so my knees remain invisible even when I sit.
Black is definitely the safest color. It’s slimming. You can match it with anything….
I’m also liking this Lauren Ralph Lauren Velvet Skirt with Ribbon Tie. In fact I think a fitted skirt like that paired with the right jacket would be more flattering on me than a flared skirt.
Some people tend to think layers are better when you’re not stick thin. In my adult life I’ve worn size 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10. Right now I’m fluctuating between 4 and 8 depending on the time of the month and other factors.
From my personal experience when you are a bigger size you don’t want to squeeze yourself into clothing that’s too small, but if you want to slenderize your appearance you should wear fitted clothing. Just make sure it’s your right size. Big, bulky, flaring, layered clothing isn’t flattering on bigger bodies. I’ll probably go with that skirt or try to find something similar in a size 6. Size 4 might be a bit risky at this time of year. Just had a birthday and haven’t been good about resisting the temptation to eat 3/4ths of the cake…
As for tops to go with the skirt something that’s not fitted would be ideal for me. I have fibroids so my stomach is the size of about 3 months of pregnancy before meals and 4 - 5 months of pregnancy after meals.
I actually like this Blouse tunic top from Newport News, except I’m not particularly fond of clothes that have short sleeves or no sleeves. I like the color. I also like the style. It’s dressy enough without being too formal, and it looks like it shouldn’t draw attention to your stomach.

It would go well with a fitted skirt I think, but maybe better with a fitted skirt that isn’t flared at the hem like the Lauren Ralph Lauren Velvet skirt? Maybe a straight pencil skirt?
Baby doll and empire waist tops are usually good for drawing attention away from your stomach, although most tops in these styles are casual and might not be appropriate for a staff party unless casual attire is allowed.
