Walmart employee dies in Black Friday store rush

A Wal-Mart employee lost his life and four other people sustained injuries when shoppers rushed to get into a Walmart store in Valley Stream to take advantage of “Black Friday”.

Reports claim that at least 2000 shoppers were waiting outside for the store to open at 5AM. When the doors opened the crowd began to push and shove their way into the store. The Walmart employee who lost his life, a 34 year-old male, was knocked to the ground during the rush. He is said to have suffered a heart attack. He was rushed to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead.

Among the four other people injured during the stampede was a 28-year-old pregnant woman. Earlier reports suggested the woman had suffered a miscarriage; however new reports cite doctors as stating that the woman’s baby is just fine.

As a result of the death of the Walmart employee and injuries sustained by the four shoppers, the store was closed to incoming shoppers.

Jimmy Overby, a co-worker of the man who died, told the New York Daily News:

“He [the employee who died] was bum-rushed by 200 people.”

“They took the doors off the hinges. He was trampled and killed in front of me. They took me down too … I literally had to fight people off my back.”

Update: The victim has been identified as Jdimytai Damour.
