Taye Diggs as James Bond?

Actor Daniel Craig was probably trying to be tongue-in-cheek when he commented that it might be time for a Black James Bond. He was probably just getting in on the first Black US president action and being a smart-alec by throwing out a random remark thinking he was being interesting, funny or otherwise cute; but everyone has now hopped on the Black James Bond bandwagon. It’s kind of like the Black Wonder Woman bandwagon. At the end of the day, if someone Black is cast to play either role what difference does it make? Is the race of either character in any way important to their story? Both are fictional and the roles could be played by cats or dogs for all anyone really cares.

On the subject of a Black James Bond, there are two ideas circulating about which prominent Black actors would be good for the role. Some people are suggesting actor Idris Elba of HBO’s “The Wire”, and others are suggesting Taye Diggs. Somehow Taye Diggs just doesn’t seem like he’d make a believable James Bond. He looks more suited for the role of a defense attorney. There’s a bit of softness in his appearance that wouldn’t carry over very well as 007.

Who do you think would make a good choice for the first Black 007? Terrence Howard? Will Smith? Maybe they should go outside the establishment and try to find an up-and-coming actor.
