Still looking at digital cameras to replace my old Sony Cybershot. After seeing some photos a friend took on their vacation to Barbados a few weeks back I was impressed by the quality of their pictures and it reminded me that I need to get rid of my joke of a digital camera. The Sony Cybershot is probably an obsolete camera by now. I still can’t believe it was ever considered a quality digital camera. I think it was the first 4 megapixels camera when it came out or something like that which gave Sony the cojones to charge over $800 for it.

I know some people are drawn to higher priced items because they assume if it costs a lot of money it has to be of high quality. I’m assuming, for example, that the Nikon D300 DX 12.3MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S VR DX Nikkor Zoom Lens has got to be a truly superior digital SLR camera because it is selling for $2,240. Packing 12.3 megapixels, the camera is said to capture enough detail for poster-size photo-quality prints.

At that price tag it’s probably too much camera for recreational photography though.
