Today after reading about how 5 suspected kidnappers were beaten to death by a mob of people in Guatemala, I briefly wondered if the threat of mob vigilantism could scare would-be criminals out of going forward and committing crimes. I decided to do some research to find out how common it is for mobs to attack and kill suspected criminals. It literally took less than a second of seeing a photographic example of the cruel and inhuman manner in which angry mobs tend to exact revenge for me to come to the conclusion that there’s no place in a civilized society for mob vigilantism.

I will not show you the photo here nor will I link to it. I will briefly describe it as a photo of two Pakistani men, robbers reportedly, lying in the street with flames rising from their dead bodies while the mob of people who set them on fire stand around watching the spectacle.

When angry people take justice into their own hands nothing good ever results.
