Arrested: Michelle Martin (age: 33)

Reason for Arrest: Murder by  Stabbing

Victim: Her boyfriend Michael Thomas (victim’s name not officially released as of this post. Friends have identified him to media as Michael Thomas)

Where crime occurred: Denver, Colorado at 3421 Humboldt St.

Motive for murder: Apparently Michelle was pissed off at Michael for going to do the laundry with his friend David “K. C.” Douglas instead of going to do it with her. They got into a fight according to Douglas.

David Douglas - “She was just mad and and going off, and I figured they would settle it.”

A short while later Douglas found himself trying to resuscitate his friend after someone came knocking on his door asking him to call 911. He discovered that Michelle had stabbed Michael in the stomach.

David Douglas - “She (Martin) came out behind him(the person who came knocking asking him to call 911), saying, ‘He’s dying,’ and so I ran in there, you know, and  tried to resuscitate him. I tried to attempt it, and it was to no avail, you know. I was busy on the phone with the 9-1-1 operator and with the other hand, I was trying to keep her off of him. To me, it was making the wound worse.”

Other details: Michelle is facing charges of first degree murder

Impression: If indeed Michelle stabbed Michael because he went to do laundry with David Douglas instead of her, it’s unfortunate that Michael had to die for such a petty and ridiculous reason. Maybe Michelle should have taken Michael’s preference as a sign that maybe she needed to move on and find someone else who preferred her company to that of his friend; or maybe she could have taken a chill pill and just let Michael do the laundry with David if that was his preference. There’s no need to be angry and jealous because your boyfriend prefers the company of his friend for certain things. Sounds like Michelle was being irrational and went way overboard trying to insist on things being the way she wanted them to be. Oh well, at least she made history. Denver’s first murderer of 2009. Congratulations Michelle.
