Linda Hockaday worked as a bus matron for a company providing transportation services to special needs persons. Her job was to assist with clearing the bus and making sure everyone got safely delivered to their destination.

On December 31st, Linda Hockaday betrayed everyone’s trust when she intentionally left 22-year old Edwin Rivera on the bus.

Edwin Rivera has Cerebral Palsy and is said to have the mental capacity of a toddler. Hockaday found him asleep on the bus after the driver had parked the bus back in the bus company’s parking lot after making rounds. On any other day, presumably, Hockaday would have notified the driver that they had missed a delivery. They would then have turned around and taken the individual home; but on December 31st, Linda Hockaday was faced with a predicament.

Later that night there was going to be a concert at Linda’s church and she didn’t want to miss it. She knew that if the driver turned around to take Ed Wynn Rivera home she was probably going to be late getting home and consequently late getting to the concert.

Faced with the choice of putting Ed Wynn Rivera’s welfare above her ability to enjoy the performance of Dino, an entertainer known as “the Christian Liberace”, Linda Hockaday apparently decided Ed Wynn’s life was secondary to the joy of sitting amongst her brothers and sisters in Christ being entertained by the flamboyant pianist. So off Linda Hockaday went, leaving Ed Wynn Rivera asleep in the back of the bus. She figured someone, like the bus driver, would notice the young man and take him home; but Linda Hockaday figured wrong.

17 hours after Linda Hockaday knowingly walked off the bus and said nothing to the driver about Ed Wynn Rivera still being on the bus asleep, the young man was found “curled up and rocking inside the bus”. He had to be hospitalized and treated for hypothermia after spending a night on a bus out in freezing temperatures.

Hockaday has been charged with two counts of felony reckless endangerment. She could spend up to seven years in jail. Here’s hoping the Chrisitan Liberace’s performance was worth possibly spending seven years in jail to enjoy; and she should thank her lucky stars the boy didn’t die because then she’d probably be facing life in prison.
