On December 30 2008 Brian Mahon was shot and killed because he was Catholic. His killer, Derik Bonestroo, apparently entered his workplace building fired a gun into the ceiling to get everyone’s attention. He then announced, “If you’re not Christian, you’re going to die.”
Witnesses have told police that Bonestroo approached Mahon and asked him his religion. Mahon replied that he was Catholic and was immediately shot in the head and chest.
Police say Bonestroo, a 24-year-old ski lift operator at the Eldora ski area in Boulder Colorado where Mahon, the victim, also worked as the general manager, was determined to kill anyone present who wasn’t a Christian. From the report it appears other people were confronted, but only Brian Mahon was shot and killed.
