Indonesia ferry with 250 people on board sinks

MSNBC is reporting that an Indonesian ferry thatĀ  was carrying 250 people between Pare-pare, on the island of Sulawesi, and Samarinda, in East Kalimantan has sunken. There have been 150 people taken off the ferry; however it is not known at the time of this report whether these people are dead or alive.

Several reports attribute the sinking of The Teratai Prima to a bad storm. Officials and witnesses say the ship was battered by seven-foot waves.

Ferries sinking in Indonesia is a fairly common (yearly) occurrence and is usually caused by overcrowding.
