The 21-year old father of a 4-month old baby boy who died back on December 3rd has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the child’s death. Police in Blackfoot Idaho allege that Ricardo Lopez-Santillan shook his son in a moment of frustration, causing brain damage from which the child was unable to recover.

Here’s some advice for  all you new young fathers out there, your baby is going to cry a lot and you’re going to get a lot frustrated, especially if you’re not particularly full of patience to begin with; so be a jerk if you have to and walk away from the scene if you feel your patience waning and anger rising over your baby’s crying. You and the baby’s momma will both get over the fact that you walked out and went to play golf, shoot hoops or whatever when she needed your help to calm the infant; but you probably won’t get over killing the baby as easily. You certainly won’t for as long as you sit behind bars paying for your crime.

It’s better to be that dad who leaves and goes off to hang with his buddies to avoid the inevitable frustrations that come with parenting than to act on your frustration and end up killing your child; but best of  all is if you try to take some parenting classes to learn how to be a good father because, believe it or not, “good parenting” doesn’t come naturally. You have to learn how to be a good parent.
