Last Sunday, Jose Sucuzhanay, a 31-year-old New York resident of Ecuadorian nationality, was walking in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn with his brother, Romel Sucuzhanay, 38, when the two were attacked. The brothers had just left from a party held at St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church when they were accosted by a group of men who shouted anti-gay and anti-Latino slurs from their car.
The men at some point exited their vehicle and attacked the brothers. Romel Sucuzhanay was able to escape with minor cuts and scrapes; however, his brother Jose sustained severe head trauma. Jose was taken to Elmhurst Hospital where he died from his injuries Friday night. More on this at CNN.com
