A possible disaster was recently averted when two travelers confronted a pilot after noticing that he looked drunk and smelled like he’d been drinking. An FAA investigation is now underway after the two travelers, Andy Maisner and Chan Mahon, brought attention to the fact that the pilot, scheduled to pilot a flight from Port Columbus International Airport to Orlando, was drunk.  When police questioned the pilot after locating him in a restroom where he’d gone after Maisner and Mahon confronted him, he told them that he had called in sick for his Orlando flight. He denied drinking, but admitted he’d “partied hard” the previous night.

Despite the incident, the Orlando flight took off on time with a new pilot as the captain. Maisner and Mahon were not scheduled to be passengers on the Orlando flight. They just happened to notice when the pilot went through security looking drunk and they took it upon themselves to do something about it.
