Anastasia and Tatiana Dogaru were born with the top of Tatiana’s head attached to the back of Anastasia’s head. They are conjoined twins. A doctor brought them to the United States to be evaluated in the hope of separating them; but it has been concluded that separating the 5-year old Romainia girls will not be possible. They will live attached for the rest of their lives, joined in such a way that they will never be able to look into each other’s eyes.

Dr. Kenneth Sayler, chairman and founder of World Craniofacial Foundation is reported as saying, “We have finally decided that it’s in these girls’ best interest that they remain like they are….” The doctor has called the girls troupers, saying they have become smart, active girls; but nothing short of a miracle will make separating them possible.

Why can’t the girls be separated?

Anastasia and Tatiana cannot be separated because of a number of complications including shared blood vessels and joined brains. More at msnbc.com
