The murder of a butterfly

Friday, November 14th, 2008

I read a poem over on poemhunter.com about a butterfly. The poem was written by a poet named Adryan Bates. It kind of sounds like to me that Adryan Bates is describing killing a butterfly. She writes about a butterfly that flies so high in the sky then lands on her thigh and lies motionlessly before dying gracefully.

I don’t know. It’s a pretty poem, but I’m thinking it’s describing the murder of a butterfly. Like maybe it lands on her thigh and she slaps it dead, although that would kill it instantly. Maybe she doesn’t slap it hard but just enough to stun it, then she flicks it to the ground and watches as it dies, fluttering it’s broken little wings lifelessly.

Maybe that’s just the dark side of me coming through here, you know, the side of me that cats see when they stare at me their big cat eyes.

You read it and tell me what you think. Butterfly, Butterfly by Adryan Bates

A South African monkey was once awarded a medal and promoted to the rank of corporal during World War I?

Friday, November 14th, 2008

I should probably feel very stupid for wondering if this is true. It’s just that crazier things happen every day; but since I was unable to find verification of this on any website that is known for being a reputable source of information I’m going to go ahead and assume it’s just a joke.

I suppose it’s one of those things that should obviously be false, and anyone with the remotest bit of intelligence recognizes it to be false immediately; but you can never tell any more what’s real and what’s fake. Maybe it’s real who knows? If by some remote chance it’s real, I guess just because they gave a monkey a medal and the rank of corporal doesn’t mean they also had the monkey running an army unit. Now that would be something….

Rain is falling. Lightening is flashing.  Thunder is rolling. Today is Friday.

I’m sitting here listening to the rain as it falls. I’m dreading Thanksgiving….

Single men with cats

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

I got a laugh out of this post I found on the blog trixareforkids.com. The blogger has a post titled “single men with cats scare me“. The post isn’t necessarily hilarious or anything but it gave me a chuckle anyway. I can’t really say I understand where the author is coming from. A single guy can have a cat. Why not? Everyone needs someone or something to love. Speaking of cats I was looking at pictures of cats on Flickr and now I have a headache. As a matter of fact that’s how I came across the “single men with cats scare me” post. I was searching to see if there are other people out there who get a headache from looking into cats eyes, so I typed “cats scare me” into Google.

I don’t know what it is about cats’ eyes that make me feel queasy. Something about the way cats look at me makes me very uncomfortable. It’s like they can see into my soul and they know the truth about me that I might try to hide from the rest of the world. (more…)

The Basket Building in Ohio and other interesting art and architecture

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

FOOQU visited villageofjoy.com and had fun looking at  some interesting pictures.

We viewed some cool examples of optical illusions, some truly “amazing” 3D sidewalk art, pictures of some of the weirdest cars ever, interesting food art, including eggplant penguins and sheep made out of black olives, black-eyed peas and cauliflower.

We also viewed pictures of some of the most interesting buildings in the world like the basket building shown in the picture above.

If you have some time to pass and want to see examples of how creative some people can be you should definitely spin by villageofjoy.com. Our recommended reads:

To the man in the black leather jacket

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

I watched you walking down the sidewalk

Don’t know where you were going

You had on a black leather jacket and jeans

You were carrying a red bag.

I watched you as you walked briskly, your free arm swinging

You crossed the street then disappeared around a corner
