The New York Times reports that Tim Gunn is the spokesman for a new awareness campaign geared towards Americans with psoriasis. As an authority figure in the field of fashion, Gun helped the designers on the TV show “Project Runway” and currently hosts his own show “Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style.” Now, he will be using his talents to help psoriasis patients learn how to dress without compromising fashion.
Affecting more than 7.5 million Americans, psoriasis is a chronic disease of the immune system that shows up on the skin as red, flaky patches.
“My role is to help people look at this from a positive point of view and bring some practical suggestions about how they can get their fashion right,” said Gun. His suggestions start with the basics. “It’s still about silhouette, proportion and fit. The closer your clothes follow your natural silhouette, the slimmer and more polished you will look.”
Gun also discusses the practical aspect of living with psoriasis, and that is, that many people tend to cover it up because of embarrassment. In addition, many complain that they cannot wear darker colors due to white flaking. He addresses these concerns as well as many others, hoping to find a balance between fashion and the disease.
Gun will be hosting a fashion show this September, featuring people that have moderate to severe plaque psoriasis. These people “have an inspiring story to tell, who have not been beaten down by this.”

If you’re under a great deal of stress every day you might consider adding a cup of peppermint tea to your daily diet. Peppermint is believed to have a calming effect and can help with depression associated anxiety.
