iPhones are coming to a Walmart near you

Sunday, December 7th, 2008

By the end of December you might be able to buy an iPhone at your local Wal-mart. It is being reported that Walmart might start carrying iPhones in the next few weeks.  There will be two models carried according to representatives from two walmart stores; and at least one Walmart store in Bentonville, Arkansas might carry a 4-gigabyte version of the iPhone that had previously been discontinued. That version would sell for $99.

At this time there is no official word about this. Neither Apple nor Walmart executives have confirmed the reports. Steve Dowling, speaking on behalf of Apple would only state that Apple “does not comment on rumor or speculation”; and Dan Fogleman, a spokesman for Walmart stated that  Walmart has made no official announcement about plans to carry an iPhone and therefore he could not comment.
