Ashley Dupree talks with Diane Sawyer

Ashley Dupré, the former escort who was involved in the Eliot Spitzer scandal gave an interview to 20/20 and Diane Sawyer to tell her side of story. (Watch the video) As a woman who has had to make similar choices to get bills paid, I am personally disappointed that Ashley chose to gave this interview and basically tell the world what they wanted to hear hoping to win sympathy and understanding.

Ashley cried to Diane Sawyer about how she’s made so many mistakes, how she lost her way and was selfish, misguided, got caught up with the wrong crowd etcetera. To me she seemed desperate to change people’s minds about her.

That’s such a weak character trait, caring what people think about you. You know who you are. It shouldn’t matter what people think. Trying to explain yourself and justify your actions to people who are going to judge you based on how things add up to them on paper is stupid. As far as the world is concerned it doesn’t matter  how she got mixed up in the lifestyle. It only matters ‘that’ she got mixed up in it; and no one’s going to see her as anything other than what they call women who get mixed up in that life. That’s just the way  things work.

Ashley might as well just get on with her life and learn to hold her head high and not apologize to anybody because at the end of the day it’s really nobody’s business. She doesn’t owe an apology or an explanation to anyone.

Here’s what Ashley told Diane Sawyer:

“I think by not having my father and my brother around, I really … I felt like I missed something.”

“To have a certain level of respect for yourself, how to carry yourself. Have that father that, you know, if I’m dating a guy and he can’t stand him, you know, stick up for me and say, ‘What are you doing?’ The unconditional love feeling … I just couldn’t find it.

“I didn’t have that emotional connection.”

“I think I was confused. I didn’t know what sex was.”

“I’ve made so many mistakes.”

“It’s trial and error. I feel like I’ve raised myself. I left home at 17, you know.”

Hopefully this will not become a habit for Ashely, giving intereviews to explain how she ended up working as an escort. People do what they have to do to survive. It’s that simple.
