When in Dubai don’t have sex on the beach

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

If you and your significant other are planning a trip to Dubai in the near future, remember that having sex on the beach in Dubai comes with risk of spending time in jail in Dubai. Unless frolicking in the sand is worth spending time in jail, do your dirty business behind closed doors.

Michelle Palmer and Vince Acors, the two Brits who were caught having sex on the beach in Dubai back in July have been through an ordeal they are unlikely to ever forget. Recently a judge dropped their prison sentence and ruled that they must pay a fine and be deported. This comes after they were previously convicted and sentenced to three months in prison charged with having sex outside of marriage, public indecency and drunkenness.

The pair have no doubt learned a valuable lesson about cultural differences and the importance of abiding by the rules of the nation you’re visiting. When you travel to another country you’d better know what’s against the law there.

In Dubai public displays of affection are unlawful, so if you go there on a romantic trip remember that overtly sexual behavior of any kind is considered offensive and could get you into trouble.

Is Natalee Holloway still alive?

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if it could turn out that Natalee Holloway, the Alabama girl who disappeared while on a graduation trip to Aruba in 2005 is still alive? Joran van der Sloot, the man believed to have killed Natalee Holloway, recently claimed in an interview with FOX’s Greta van Susteren that he sold Natalee Holloway to a Venezuelan man for $10000. He has since called van Susteren and told her he made up the story, but FOX is still pushing the issue calling for an investigation into van der Sloot’s latest claims.

They [FOX] insist that it’s only the right thing to do, investigating Joran van der Sloot’s claims just in case there is a small chance that Natalee Holloway might be alive and being held captive somewhere in Venezuela; but what are the chances of there being any truth in this latest story being told by Joran van der Sloot? Could Natalee Holloway possibly be alive?

Joran van der Sloot could be heard in a tape played on the Greta van Susteren show saying he wants to come forward and end this because at least if the girl can be found it would prove he didn’t hurt anybody; but if it was so important to him to prove he didn’t hurt anybody why didn’t he tell this story about selling Natalee to a Venezuelan man years ago? Why would he have preferred to risk the possibility of being charged with murder?

Quite frankly what FOX is doing seems more cruel and self-serving than anything else. To risk raising the hopes of Natalee Holloway’s family knowing fully well that this is just another van der Sloot stunt, to put ratings above ethics is deplorable, and unless they have very good reason to believe there’s a strong possibility Natalee Holloway was indeed sold and is possibly alive in Venezuela, they really shouln’t have opened this particular can of worms.

Toymakers to parents - move your kid from in front of the TV

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

Re: Parents To Toymakers: Cut The Ads - parents need to start taking responsibility and stop looking to blame advertisers and manufacturers for their inability to control their children’s desire to have all the expensive toys they see advertised on TV. If you have a problem with commercials on the TV putting ideas into your child’s head either turn off the TV or talk to the child and explain how the commercial is designed to make the product seem like something the child has to have, not because the product is really something the child has to have but because the manufacturer wants your money.

You the parent have complete control at the end of the day. If your child cries because you didn’t get him the toy he wanted let him cry. He’ll get over it; and if he doesn’t get over it - If he holds it against you for the rest of his life then you can blame yourself for that as well, because you are the one responsible for making sure your child understands that toys are just things and that toys don’t add any real value to life.

Writing letters to advertisers and manufacturers is completely unnecessary. You don’t need the help of advertisers or manufacturers to keep your holiday spending down.

Winona Ryder accused of stealing Bulgari jewels

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

Actress Winona Ryder who served three years of probation and 480 hours of community service after her shoplifting incident back in 2001, has recently been accused of stealing over $124,000 worth of Bulgari jewels.

Ryder borrowed the jewelry for an event attended in Madrid, Spain on November 20, 2008; but she is alleged to have failed to return the items.

The items Winona Ryder is being accused of stealing, a diamond-encrusted bracelet and ring, were reported missing by Ryder who at first said she left them in her hotel room for someone from Marie Claire to pick up, but later claimed she left at the hotel’s front desk for safekeeping.

The management at the hotel refute the claim that Ryder left the jewels at the front desk. They say they never received the jewels and have no surveillance evidence of Ryder handing them to anyone at the front desk.

Update: New reports of the missing Bulgari jewels suggest the possibility that someone else might have stolen the items and is trying to make it look like Winona Ryder did it by making up the story that Winona said she left the pieces at the front desk. Accroding to these new reports, Winona left the items in her hotel room to be picked up by someone from Marie Claire. Winona Ryder not a suspect in missing bulgari jewelry

The Black Friday shooting at the Palm Desert Toys ‘R’ Us store that left Alejandro Moreno and Juan Meza dead started with a brawl between the two women the men had accompanied to the store.

According to what eyewitnesses have told police, a fight broke out between two women near the checkout. One woman apparently started punching the other causing her to bleed from the nose. The other was reportedly fighting back when the man she was with made it known that he had a gun by pulling the weapon halfway out of his pocket.

At this point, the other man whipped out his own gun and the two soon began firing at each other, one running for the exit while firing back at the other who was chasing after him and firing.

Some witnesses report that the two women between whom the altercation started had children with them. The identities of the two women have not been released and it is not known whether or not they will be facing any charges for the alarm they caused or reckless endangerment of children and innocent shoppers.
